River Island Spring/Summer 2019 Press Day

River Island is one of those shops that I always wanted to buy from when I was a teen but was way too broke!

Nowadays kids want Gucci bags and LV but all I wanted was a damn pair of River Island jeans…

I always enjoy seeing River Island‘s new collections and this year’s Spring/Summer press event was no exception.

The first rail that really caught my eye was the swimwear. I love browsing swimwear even though it’s not something I would buy every year.

This stunning baroque print swimsuit was one of my favourite pieces.

It’s €50 which is quite pricey but apparently, you can buy in sterling from the River Island UK site and get it delivered to a store near you. I haven’t tried this myself but let me know if you have.

The other thing I noticed about this is that you’d probably need to size up if you wear a larger bra size, the cups on a size ten looked quite small.

This lime green beauty with a black belt would also look great on the beach.

alt=

Belts seemed to feature on most of the one-pieces.

I’m not sure yet if I like this trend but it’s definitely going to be a thing because I saw Kylie Jenner wearing a belted one-piece on her Insta!

This lilac cut-out swimsuit was another favourite.

I prefer one-pieces to bikinis more and more these days!

What really excited me is that River Island now do homeware and my love for homeware knows no bounds!

There wasn’t a massive selection but the chair and cushions above made a great photo backdrop and there were also some cute lanterns, candles and storage boxes.

There’s some gorgeous bedding, vases, planters and mirrors on the website and I can’t wait to check it out in-store as I’m always looking for nice things for my apartment.

The homeware range is available in Swords, Blanchardstown and Dundrum in Dublin and also online.

Animal prints and logos are sticking around for 2019, judging by these styles.

Neons, polka dots and pyjama-inspired prints also featured heavily.

This little polka dot dress would be the perfect holiday or summer wedding outfit.

alt=

Snakeprint was a common motif on shoes also.

alt=
Snakeprint boots and sandals

There are lots of co-ords in the new collection which I really like but I’ve never worn one yet.

My favourite was this denim ‘Couture’ jacket and skirt set. The jacket is €60, while the skirt is €35.

alt=

From a more formal look, this powder blue blazer is gorgeous for a special occasion and there are shorts to match.

alt=

River Island do really good accessories, especially bags and wallets.

There were lots of sunglasses and some jewellery on display also, including this fabulous lion head Versace-esque necklace.

River Island shoes are on the expensive side but they are also quite hard-wearing. When it comes to footwear, it’s worth paying a little more for better materials.

I’ve a pair of RI heels that I bought in 2012 and cowboy boots that I’ve had since 2015 so not a bad investment.

If you have a decent pair of shoes, it’s worth getting the heel tips or even the soles replaced as they wear, rather than just buying a new pair.

alt=

I used my old digital camera to take some of these pictures as the lens is better than my phone and I’d left my DSLR at home.

The results were mixed some of the photos on my phone came out better but it’s handy to have an alternative.

I also browsed the menswear and kidswear ranges.

alt=
Men’s accessories
alt=
The kidswear was so cute!
alt=

The childrenswear really impressed me, it was really trendy and cute and I wanted most of the adorable girls’ shoes and backpacks!

alt=

On my way out the door, I stopped to grab some delicious snacks from the Black Sheep food stand.

alt=

I had a two-hour drive ahead of me so they were just what I needed.

Thanks to the River Island team for a lovely afternoon.

Hope you all enjoyed this post, I hope to have some homeware and outfit posts coming soon, including some Aliexpress purchases so stay tuned!

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to check out my InstagramTwitter and Facebook page.

Autumn/Winter 2018 trends: Logos, Animal Prints and Checks

It’s starting to feel autumnal out there so what better time to start planning my autumn/winter wardrobe?

After this year’s heatwave, it feels like we really did have a summer for once but autumn is definitely on the way now.

All the shops are stocked with autumnal clothes and these are some of the trends you’ll see everywhere on the high street and the catwalk this A/W.

Logos

I blame Fendi and the Kardashian family for this one but logos are back with a bang.

They went completely out of fashion for a while as they were associated with a tacky early 00s look but the logo has been resuscitated and reinvented.

It’s a sartorial throwback to those heady pre-recession days where the only way to let everyone know you had style/money was to plaster yourself with logos.

Think Kylie Jenner pushing Stormi in THAT Fendi pram and you get the idea.

alt=
Kylie and Stormi (is she even in that pram?!)

If Fendi is a tad outside your budget, you’ll find plenty of logo-embossed looks on the high street.

Pretty Little Thing does Dior vibes with this saddle-shaped bag.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the price of this bag online but I’m sure it’s not expensive.

alt=< Saddle-shaped logo bag>

If you’re heading away before the end of summer, these funky logo sliders would look great poolside and are just €22.

alt=

A cute cover-up from those colder days comes in the form of this black jacquard jumper from Zara. It’s €29.95 and comes in small, medium and large.

alt=

And those want to go with the all-over look, this bodycon unitard from Motel will definitely turn heads, ideal for all the festival girlos going to EP. It’s €49.

alt=

I think the key to pulling off the logo look is picking a neutral colour (black, brown, white, cream) and either opting for one all-over piece or an accessory.

Animal print

Animal print is always one of my favourite looks and although some may feel it’s too loud or trashy looking, there’s a lot to be said for a striking print.

Go bold in leopard or pick a dainty print for a more reserved look.

This slip dress can be thrown over a long sleeve-t-shirt and black tights, the perfect transitional outfit. It’s €42 from Motel.

alt=

If you’re not a fan of the traditional leopard print, there are other beasts in the jungle to take your inspiration from this A/W.

These python print jeans from Zara are €39.95.

alt=

Nasty Gal is always a great place to find on-trend pieces and I’m loving these zebra and leopard print bodysuits.

These would look great with blue or black denim and can be dressed up or down.

alt=zebra print bodysuit>

These both come in at an affordable €23 each.

And for those who dare, coloured animal print is everywhere and in my opinion worth a try.

This New Look skirt would look great with a black polo neck, black tights and ankle boots.

Checks, tweeds and plaids (again)

Every autumn without fail, some version of “heritage” aka checks, tweeds and plaids, hit the runway.

If you read my last post, you’ll know the Clueless look will be massive this autumn and I’ll be damned if I don’t get to dress up as Cher Horowitz.

alt=

This gorgeous bag caught my eye while browsing in & Other Stories yesterday.

At €79, it’s not a bargain item but I am really lusting after it!

alt=<Check bag & Other Stories>

I’m not much of a fan of midi-length skirts but the colour combo of this Bershka one is really cool. It’s also wallet-friendly, coming in at just under €20.

alt=<check midi skirt>

I’m also here for these paperbag waist check trousers from Zara, €49.95.

alt= <Blue check trousers>

Pinafore dresses

This trend has been around most of the year but swap your denim pinny for a cord one for extra warmth and bonus 60s vibes this autumn.

I love pinafores as I adore anything girly and cute but you can toughen them up with a biker jacket, doc martens or an oversized denim jacket.

Below, I’m wearing a black cord pinafore from H&M with a Kodak logo tee also from H&M.

This burgundy pinafore comes in at just under €50 from Asos.

alt=

If that’s out of your price range, Penneys have a very similar style for €15.

alt=
Penneys pinafore dress. Pic: Primark.com

The loose shift style is most flattering on the tall and skinny gals but I prefer a more fitted pinafore that gives me a bit of a waist.

This teal green beauty from Nasty Gal is slightly more streamlined and is €45.

alt=
Teal green pinafore dress. Pic: Nastygal.com

With a pinafore dress, it’s always better to wear layers underneath it and a light jacket on top, as heavy jumpers and hoodies just look bulky.

Scarf prints

Now, this is a trend I can never get enough of. Loud, in-your-face silky scarf prints look amazing on a dress or blouse.

Zara has really done this trend justice, with this gorgeous pleated skirt and matching bomber jacket.

Do yourself a favour and check out their autumn/winter “Retro Aesthetics” lookbook – it is stunning.

alt=<scarf-print-bomber-jacket-and-skirt>

Both pieces are €49.95 each.

A more demure look is this delicate chain print blouse also from Zara for €29.95.

alt=<Chain print blouse>

This Nasty Gal bodysuit is sure to make everyone green with envy (ha, ha) and is only €30.

alt=

And for something dressy and a little more unusual, look no further than this amazing Asos Design playsuit.

It’s a real statement piece and if you shop in sterling you can nab it for just under €47.

Hope you all enjoyed this trend post and leave me a comment to let me know what you think.

I’m really pleased to have made the longlist for Best Personal Fashion Blog category in the Blog Awards Ireland and I’m hoping to make the shortlist this year.

I’ve spent five years working on this blog and it really means a lot to me.

Scarlet Lady: Autumn/Winter Trends 2017

It’s been a long time since I wrote a trend post and I’m really excited about this one. Having been laid up with an injury all summer, the summer trends pretty much passed me by in a blur.

I think all Irish fashionistas love autumn/winter fashion because we know we’ll always get a lot more wear out of it. A harsh reality of our climate!

Once my ankle got stronger and I was back at work one of the first things I did was walk around the city centre and visit the shops.

Might seem sad to some but I really missed window shopping and checking out the new season trends. Have a browse at some of my favourite A/W pieces in stores now.

Red

From crimson to scarlet, various shades of red are everywhere this Autumn/Winter.

Red isn’t a traditional autumn/winter colour but most people can pull it off. I haven’t worn red in years but I’m excited to add some to my A/W wardrobe.

If like me, you’re a bit cautious when it comes to red, then one key accessory is a good way to go. I love these Stradivarius boots and they’re only €29.95 – bargain!

alt=<red-ankle-boots>

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be back in my heels for quite some time…

If you want something a bit more daring, you can’t go wrong with these high-shine PVC Topshop boots. PVC is huge this autumn winter also so go forth and shine!

alt=

alt=
I love this styling

Gucci slogan dupe t-shirts are everywhere at the moment and this red River Island one is amazing.

It’s from the plus size range and is available in sizes 18-26.

alt=

This red Gucci-style embroidered bag from Stradivarius is all kinds of fab – I bought it in black and it’s one of my favourite bags yet.

I always get loads of compliments on it and was it only €19.99.

My love for biker jackets knows no end and I’m determined to get a red one this autumn.

Check out this patent biker beaut which is €68 from Missguided.

alt=

Pearl embellishment

This is probably my favourite trend this A/W.

alt=<pearl-choker>

I’ve already succumbed to this trend – see above my choker from Penneys.

Other personal faves these AMAZING pearl studded boots from &OtherStories, these pink and black Topshop clutches and a Penneys denim jacket with pearl embellishment.

alt=

This adorable pearl embellished beret is from Nasty Gal – I really like that the pearls are securely fastened in, not just sewn on.

Piercing embellishment

This is a really cool trend, with everything from jumpers to bags sporting what look like nipple rings and barbells!

This little backpack is from Penneys, FYI.

alt=

I think these embellishments look particularly good on a chunky jumper.

alt=

Topshop has nailed the punk look with this denim jacket and skirt set with all-over piercing embellishment. Probably not an outfit for the airport…

alt=

Denim skirts

Ok bear with me, I know it’s September but the denim skirt will still be an A/W wardrobe staple.

We’ve been wearing denim skirts with bare legs all summer but you can still rock a denim skirt with boots and black tights.

Plain denim is out with sequins and fishnet diamond details taking centre stage at Topshop this A/W – perfect for all your autumn nights out.

For something a little simpler, check out this contrast panel stretch denim skirt from PLT at Asos – so cute!

alt=

Lace-up denim skirts are impracticality at its finest – but I can’t help liking them all the same.

An example of something I really like but wouldn’t be quite brave enough to wear!

alt=

Checks/Tweeds

If I’m honest I think this trend is a tad dull but at the same time, a brown tweed/check blazer is a great alternative to boring black for work.

It all depends on how you style it!

This long wool masculine style wool coat from Bershka looks great over a more casual outfit.

alt=
Long check coat. Pic: Bershka.com

Zara is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for a tailored piece, this double-breasted blazer is really cool.

alt=

For a slightly different take on the neverending heritage trend, try these high-waisted trousers from Topshop. The cropped cut and red thread through the middle gives them a modern twist.

The cropped leg and red thread through the middle gives them a modern twist.

PVC

Not one for the faint-hearted but I do have a serious love of all things PVC. These Jourdan Dunn for Missguided Londunn trousers are super cool.

alt=

For an equally bold look, there’s always PVC red leggings.

I think I’d feel like such a rockstar in these ones from Bershka, I could almost forget about my ankle!

alt=

Another high-shine piece I’m loving are these sassy little shorts with scallop details from Missguided.

Gorgeous for a night out and they come in gold and turquoise too – what more could you want?

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post- I certainly had fun “researching” and writing it.

Leave me a comment and let me know which A/W trend is your favourite.

Flat shoe frolics

I’m currently laid up with a broken ankle after an accident involving a seven-foot fall off a ladder onto concrete. This was followed by a 13 hour wait in A & E and a five day wait for surgery to put me back together.

But I’ll stop the “woe-is-me” diatribe now… I’m very lucky that it wasn’t a lot worse!

The day before my accident, I was enjoying myself browsing summer shoes in town.

From sliders to espadrilles to trainers, there are so many cute flat shoes available at the moment. So although I won’t be wearing two shoes for quite some time, here’s a post on summer shoes for all you lucky people with two working ankles.

Espadrilles

Espadrilles are Spanish for summer (maybe that’s not true) and they are always a staple in my summer wardrobe.

Penneys have some really nice espadrilles right now in gingham, denim and tropical prints.

However, I tried on a denim pair and my normal size didn’t fit right or feel very comfortable. If you are looking for long-lasting espadrilles, maybe give Penneys a miss.

alt=

Asos shoes are generally good quality and I love these black espadrilles scattered with tiny plastic flowers.

At €56, they are pricey but check out my online shopping hacks post for tips on getting a discount.

alt=
Embellished espadrilles. Pic: Asos.com

Asos stock Soludos espadrilles which are one of my favourite summer shoe brands.

You can even buy two packs of Asos’ own brand espadrilles from Asos if you really really love your espadrilles!

You can buy espadrilles with a slight wedge for a bit of height or lace-up styles but I like the simple slip-on flat style the best.

alt=
Soludos denim espadrilles. Pic: C21.com

For the perfect summer holiday espadrilles it has to be this pair from Bershka.

alt=
Bershka espadrilles. Pic: Bershka.com

I love the nautical stripes and adorable gold design, I can almost see myself strolling the sands of Biarritz in them. Life consists of hopping on crutches and lying down right now…

Runners

I love finding comfy runners in cute summery shades, the day before my accident I bought pastel blue suede trainers from Penneys.

The material makes them look more expensive than their very purse-friendly price tag of €15. They are also available in pink.

alt=

Several pairs of runners caught my eye in Penneys including this holographic silver pair, also only €15.

alt=

If I said “denim shoes”, you’d probably reply with “Get the fuck out” but bear with me. Denim shoes are having a moment. Take these cute embellished runners from Missguided, for example.

alt=
Embroidered denim runners. Pic: Missguided.com

They are also available in white and I’m a big fan. Embellishment isn’t just for jackets, you know!

alt=
White embellished trainers. Pic: Missguided.com

Sliders

Sliders are absolutely HUGE this summer, there is no escaping them.

I’m not sold on all the fluffy styles that seem to be very popular but there are some that I do like.

alt=
Fluffy sliders from the River Island High Summer press day

I know for a fact my amazing orthopaedic surgeon would wince at these silver backless sliders and I probably won’t be wearing them any time soon but how cute are they?

alt=
Silver frill sliders. Pic: Bershka.com

I also like these white ones featuring a lip design from Missguided.

alt=

If you aren’t already following O-Mighty/OmWeekend on Insta, then you need to get following, their denim sliders are UNREAL.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTwYKrRDXgF/?taken-by=omweekend

They also have adorable satin sliders in oriental prints, one of this summer’s biggest trends.

Frill details and western-style buckles are really popular slider trends this summer.

Sandals

I personally don’t like flip-flops very much and will always go for a pair of sandals where possible.

I know this post is already overloaded with denim shoes but I love these denim bow Miss KG sandals from Topshop.

alt=

To be honest, most of these sandals are just pimped slides.

Mango have an amazing range of summer slides and sandals this year, check out these lilac slip-on beauts with frayed details and these flower applique sandals.

alt=

It’s hard to finish this post because there are so many gorgeous shoes I would love to include in it!

For now, stylish footwear (and any kind of style) will be taking a back seat in my life. I’m currently hobbling around in a giant orthopaedic boot, taking precarious showers perched on a stool and taking an assortment of painkillers everywhere I go.

Hope you all enjoyed this post, leave me a comment below and let me know.

River Island High Summer Press Day

Last week I had a chance to attend the River Island High Summer event in the Grafton Street store and I was thrilled to go as River Island is one of my favourite shops.

Not only that, but I might be going on a real holiday this year so I needed some inspiration.

I took along my new (well second-hand) Canon camera for the occasion but my photos actually came out brighter on my phone so I obviously need more practice with my camera shutter!

There were five main ladieswear collections, my favourite rail was full of beautiful embellished pieces, such as a beaded skirt and white jeans with pearls on them. The dominant colours on this rail were cream, white, coral and silver.

alt=

alt=

alt=

Then there was a holiday rail with some bright casual wear, among the pieces which caught my eye were a purple tie-dye jumper and a black mesh skirt with sequin pineapples on it.

There were more holiday pieces mixed in around the room adding to the summery vibe.

Across the room was a rail of gorgeous palm and floral print pieces which I obviously loved.

Remember my last trend post where I said embellished denim jackets were the next big thing?

If you want one that really stands out, then look out for this pale blue denim jacket with pearls and crystals of different sizes and shapes on the back. I am OBSESSED with it.

alt=

Beside this were some bright pink shorts, some lilac colours and skirts covered in sequin discs.

There was also a fabulous pink denim jacket and shorts set pinned to the wall.

alt=

There were also some nice accessories such as a pink floral suitcase, pink floral backpack and my favourite accessory was a white satchel bag with western style buckles.

alt=

The key trends in accessories were pastel colours, fluffy sliders and mules, gingham and floral patterns.

alt=

The bikinis on display were pretty cute also.

We were offered a selection of tasty treats including mini brioches and a refreshing pineapple and cucumber juice with an umbrella- totally summery!

There was also a customisation station where you could pick a pair of sandals to decorate with flowers, ribbon, plastic eyes, whatever you fancied!

The fluffy sliders were a big hit with everyone. Although I probably wouldn’t wear them myself, I do think they add a bit of fun to a holiday wardrobe.

alt=

It was a lot of fun and the girls customising the shoes were really helpful. There were green ferns draped on the walls and a bright pink flamingo adding a touch of colour.

The mannequins were beautifully dressed and the one to the left of the door really caught my eye.

It was wearing a white lacy bardot top with wide sleeves, charcoal grey loose-fitting shorts and a gingham belt. It was a simple but classy outfit, ideal for holidays or festivals.

Beside this mannequin was a rail with gingham, light wash denims, muted colours, light knitwear and some printed and beaded pieces.

I quite liked this collection also, it had a hippie folk vibe, again great for festivals. Just above this collection were beautiful Gucci-esque embroidered loafers.

alt=

The kids’ collection was full of funky sparkly items and sequin disc embellishment.

There was a lot of formal items but my favourite outfit was an adorable girl’s red gingham blouse teamed with black denim shorts on the wall.

The kids’ backpacks and shoes were very cute, I especially liked the white laser-cut boots and bronze rucksack on top of the display.

alt=

I only had a quick glance at the menswear as there was just one rail on show.

alt=

The only thing I thought the collection lacked was jewellery, River Island has the cutest inexpensive jewellery and I didn’t see any on display. However there were lots of other summer appropriate accessories, hats, sunglasses, espadrilles etc.

I really enjoyed the event and got lots of inspiration for my holiday wardrobe.

Thanks to the River Island team for such a nice day and being very welcoming.

Hope you all enjoyed this brief post and let me know if you like the collections and I’d love to hear your feedback on the photos.

P.S. thanks for the supportive comments on my last post. I was a bit anxious about putting that much personal information about myself on my blog but I’ve received nothing but kind comments. So thanks again guys, your support means the world to me.

An injection of FUN: The latest S/S ’17 trends

Gingham, pink, embellished jackets and oriental prints: all kinds of whimsical and fun trends are in fashion this spring.

While I was out shopping for graduation dresses, I got quite distracted by all the new trends in town and thought I’d do a post to share them with you.

By the way, there’s a grand stretch in the evenings altogether!

One trend I really love so far is gingham. Particularly if it comes in the shape of a bardot top or has a few frills on it.

I can get on board with a head-to-toe ensemble either. Yaasss.

alt=

These Topshop gingham blouses are great for casual wear or dressy occasions.

Blue, pink or red gingham and simple gingham sundresses are also cute.

alt=>

Gingham looks great layered over plain colours or as a contrast to a white or black t-shirt.

gingham dress

Let’s observe the fact  that even Christian Louboutin created a pair of country gal style gingham Louboutins.

alt=

Oriental prints are another huge trend this spring also. I’m a big fan of this royal blue backpack from New Look and pink high heel sandals from River Island.

alt=

This backpack is €24.99 and also comes in pink.

alt=

These Kimchi Blue dresses from Urban Outfitters are also really adorable and perfect for summer.

Oriental prints are notoriously difficult to wear so try a simple accessory like this Shein wallet if you don’t want to go overboard.

alt=

But if you do want to go all out check O-Mighty’s cute co-ord sets.

Bright pink is a really popular colour this spring, especially in co-ords, jackets and oversized jumpers.

This little pink suede biker from New Look is a great transitional piece.

alt=

I love the contrast of the red embroidered letters against the bright pink background on this Bershka jumper.

Bershka is your destination for all things pink and cosy, I’m also tempted by these goodies.

How cute is this little pink Shein t-shirt with a cactus detail?

alt=

Finally, embellished denim and leather jackets are everywhere this spring. Think lace-ups, patches, floral and slogans.

I absolutely love these and need at least one in my life!

This denim jacket with black lace-up ties running up the sleeves and across the back is amazing. #need

alt=

I’m a massive Tove Lo fan so this Junkyard slogan jacket really appeals to me.

alt=

As frequent readers know I love a good Etsy original and it’s definitely the best place to find a one-of-a-kind jacket.

The skull jacket is from Corazon Beats on Etsy and the desert scene jacket is from LivingRoomCompany.

And when I win the lottery, I’ll be off to buy this Gucci denim beauty.

alt=<embroidered jacket>

If you prefer leather jackets, you’ll like these embellished styles from Bershka and Forever 21.

What do you think of these spring trends? Do you have a favourite? Leave me a comment and let me know.

P.S. I finally bought myself a camera so look forward to some more outfit posts and more of my own style on here. It’s something I’ve wanted to introduce to the site for a long time.

FYI- this post was not sponsored or endorsed by any brands mentioned.

I will conclude this spring-themed post with some adorable baby ducks because we all need those in our lives.

Hope you all enjoyed this post and don’t forget to check out my InstagramTwitter and Facebook page here.

Thanks for reading as always.

Dressed to Frill

Frills may be something we associate with four year olds but they are one of the hottest trends this S/S 17. Get ready for an explosion of frills, flounces and ruffles!

These are a few of the frilling pieces (sorry not sorry) that I’ve seen lately on the high street and online.

This cold-shoulder dress from Missguided combines two spring trends, it’s a beautiful lilac hue with frills over the arms. Missguided are currently offering 30% off heels and dresses with the code DRESSUP30 so you could nab this beaut for just under €30!

alt=<frill-dress>

This elegant grey midi dress also from Missguided would be perfect for an occasion such as a wedding or graduation.

Even loungewear gets the frill treatment this season, I normally don’t like tracksuit sets but how cute is this?

alt=

H&M have embraced the frilly trend like no other. Their latest online editorial “Wild at Heart” is full of stunning pieces like this 80’s style blouse. Frills on top of frills, Siberian tigers and lush vegetation, whats not to love?!

This blouse is a bit more expensive at €44.99 but it’s definitely a statement piece!

H&M always have great workwear and you could incorporate some of these frilly pieces into a work wardrobe.

I’m not sure how I feel about ruffles and frills on trousers but if the rest of the outfit is kept simple it could work.

This gorgeous floral blouse would be great for work or play. H&M  have more understated frilly pieces in store and online.

If you prefer a subtle dainty look, this white blouse with frilly yoke will be right up your street. (Which reminds me, I’ve a vintage white frilly blouse in the back of my wardrobe somewhere…)

This yellow top is only €22.99 and comes in five different colours.

While this pink crop top is only €10 and would be gorgeous with black leather trousers or skinny jeans.

While I love frills on blouses, tops and dresses, I’m really not sure about frills on jeans. Take for instance, these Ellery jeans, WTF is going on here?!!

A subtle flounce might be ok but those things could sweep streets!

All about that waist

Accentuating the waist is one of fashion’s most tried and tested formulas. But chunky waist belts went out in 2007 and no-one rational would entertain a waist trainer! Enter the corset belt, the sexy and not-so-subtle waist cincher.

Beloved by Bella Hadid, Rihanna and the Kardashian klan, the latest reincarnation of the corset belt has many celebrity fans.

Corset belts were last seen back when The Pussycat Dolls had a hit and the aforementioned group were probably responsible for their demise.

The girls were known for their lingerie inspired outfits!

However, corset belts don’t have to be trashy. Back in 2011, Alexander McQueen created this beauty, the grandaddy of all corset belts.

Designers such as Manish Aurora and Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini have given the corset belt a 2017 twist with their own unique interpretations of the trend.

The corset belt can be worn multiple ways, over a over-sized t-shirt, a plain shirt, a jumper or a dress.

Although many celebrities have chosen to amp up the sex factor by wearing it with a long t-shirt and knee high boots, personally I prefer it with a casual outfit.

This blue denim corset belt from Bershka is ideal for layering over a jumper dress or t-shirt.

This Rare London black belt has a corset detail in front but plain on the reverse, perfect for daywear.

Boohoo.com even have a two-in-one corset belt and t-shirt dress for only €20!

This black leather look belt is one of my favourite corset belts and is currently only €14 on Boohoo.com.

If the Goth/vamp vibe isn’t your thing, try a white or cream belt and pair it with cotton or denim. The high street corset belts are usually about €15 but if you want to try a DIY one, here’s a simple tutorial.

I’ll definitely be trying out this trend, after all it beats going on a diet! Do you like corset belts or do you think they are overrated? Leave me a comment below and let me know.

Wrapping up warm:OOTD at Dublin Zoo

What’s the only thing better than clothes? Why clothes and cute animals of course!

A trip to Dublin Zoo in December calls for a practical and warm outfit. Some colour co-ordination is vital also of course.

You may have seen this pink jacket with fur collar in my previous posts and on my social media. I’ve been obsessing about it for so long and finally bought it in Asos’s Black Friday sale.

zoo-ootd-2

Of course I had to pair with some Penneys accessories. Well half this outfit is Penneys actually…

My  khaki green hat has a pink rose embroidered on the side which matched my coat and bag perfectly. As for the houndstooth scarf, about 2/3 of the female population own this by now… If you’re reading this, you too are probably wearing it!

alt=

Both the hat and scarf are from Penneys and were €5 each. My trusty tote bag is from Bershka and usually doubles up as a shopping bag. However for a day like this, a rucksack is a better choice. This one hurt my arms dragging it around all day!

To complete the outfit I’m wearing black push-up jeans from Bershka which were €5.99 in sale and fit like a glove.

I find myself wearing these simple white runners from Penneys almost everyday. They are a great basic item that go with every outfit and if you squint a bit they could be Stan Smiths…. 😛

The outfit was perfect for the cold weather and kept me cosy while we strolled around. I hadn’t been to the zoo since primary school (despite the fact I live within 10 mins walk!) and I really enjoyed it.

I actually had my Christmas jumper on underneath this outfit but it was way too cold to show it off! Which is a shame as I consider it quite stylish.

Winter is actually a good time to visit the zoo as it’s not crowded and there are no school tours! That didn’t deter some very excited children from banging on a glass pane at a bewildered gorilla though…

Here are just a few of the gorgeous animals we saw from and you may find them a lot more interesting than my outfit! 😛

I may have developed somewhat of a fixation with monkeys during this trip but how cute are this little troop just chilling by the lake?!

The zoo has an amazing array of creatures from orangutans to okapis and everything in between.

The zoo farm is a small section with all the regular farmyard animals, such as goats and cows. Here I embarrassed myself by mistaking a pig for a Shetland pony and a statue of a sheep for a donkey! I think I need to get my eyes tested…

After the zoo excursion, I headed out to a friend’s birthday in House. Here’s my #OOTN for good measure! I’m wearing a halterneck top with beaded fringing from a charity shop, black leather pants from H&M and my holographic shoes from Missguided.

This may be my final post before Christmas so just hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and thanks for your support throughout the year.

Fishnet Frenzy

It may be one of the most bizarre trends of 2016 but fishnet tights underneath jeans are having a sartorial moment. And if someone told me that a year ago, I’d have thought they were certifiably insane!

When I bought a pair of fishnet tights for my Halloween outfit I didn’t think I’d ever be wearing them again. Little did I know…

But with this unseasonably warm weather, there’s never been a better time to try it out! Last week I decided to dig out mine and layer them under baggy Zara jeans with ripped knees.

Halfway to town I shed my coat and scarf, it was ROASTING but at least my legs were cool in the fishnet and rips combo! I may have gotten the odd strange look but not as many as I’d anticipated.

There are several ways to wear fishnets and jeans. They can be layered under loose ripped jeans or pulled up over the waistband of your jeans with a crop top or cropped hoody.

Blue or black jeans in a boyfriend or mom fit work best with this combination.

For a more daring look, jeans with cut-out panels will showcase your fishnets also.

You can customise old jeans by ripping them up or chopping out a side panel if you want to experiment with this look.

Fishnet socks with runners or loafers are really cute and don’t require you to freeze to death or flash flesh. They look especially good with raw hem or cropped jeans.White fishnet socks are also great with runners.

A white t-shirt, cropped hoody or long coat all compliment this look. Casual flats or runners are the best accompaniment.

Fishnet tights come in all sizes and colours so don’t feel you have to conform to the bog standard black ones. Red ones look great with blue jeans and white or nude fishnets are more subtle. You can even get embellished crystallized fishnets on Etsy.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BOCM65ZACcy/?tagged=fishnets

My fishnets were €7.99 from H & M but you can get them in most shops. If you’re having trouble finding some, then just hit up Ann Summers you’re bound to get them there!

You can buy fishnet socks and oversize fishnet tights on Asos.com. I really like these as they have a reinforced toe making them less likely to rip.

Fishnets are actually quite versatile and when it gets warmer I’ll be wearing mine with skirts and vintage Levis cut-offs. The downsides are they rip easily, are handwash only and can leave a diamond imprint on your legs and waist!

What do you guys make of this trend? Would you try it out? Leave me a comment below and let me know.
