These boots were made for…talking!

If you love making a statement, then you’ll love these new A/W boots. Plain boring styles are out and loud and proud is in.

Embroidery, snakeskin and embellishment are all hot right now (in the immortal words of Rita Ora).

I have to start with the H & M studio collection, I was attempting to take a sneaky pic of them in College Green when the security guard told me I wasn’t allowed to. Boo!

The Studio footwear collection includes amazing ankle boots in vibrant red and classic brown and black boots with gold fringing.

These have a Cuban heel and are a good height. At €159, they are not remotely affordable but they are real leather.

If you follow my blog, then you’ll know I love snakeskin, particularly on shoes. My River Island ones are a cheaper dupe, bought these in a sale for around €35.

They have served me well but I need to get them re-heeled. If I have a good pair of boots or shoes, I’ll get the heel tip or heels replaced.

It can often be more economical than buying several cheap pairs.

There’s also an over the knee version of these but even for me, it might be a bit much.

I normally hate sock boots but these embellished ones pass the test!

I recently read #Girlboss and I had to go check out Nasty Gal‘s latest offerings afterwards.

These black leather cowboy boots with silver buckles are perfection. Currently reduced from €173 to €104.

River Island also has a great Western-inspired ankle boot for €60.

Of course, embroidery is another massive trend this season and there are loads of gorgeous embroidered floral boots for all you boho gals who can’t live without florals. Might be referring to myself here also. 😉

How pretty are these brushed beige suede beauties?! The design is really romantic and reminds me of old-fashioned illustrations. I also like that it’s not covering the entire boot.

While Miss Selfridge’s ‘Athena’ boots have been featured everywhere- I love the mix of colours.

You can now buy Missguided footwear at Schuh and these oriental electric blue boots are exclusive to Schuh. If they don’t have your size in stock, Schuh will order them for you and have them delivered to your house for free! I ordered Missguided holographic stilettos and had them in 2 days.

Public Desire have given the floral boot a twist with a metallic sheen and perspex heel. PS you can buy them on Asos or on their own site and you can avail of discounts through Unidays.

There’s a multitude of styles and textures out there, brocade, velvet and metallic.

These vintage Tory Burch boots are my housemates but I had to try them on!

Now I know I haven’t featured very many ‘cheap’ styles in this post- when it comes to footwear you will usually have to pay a bit more if you want them to withstand an Irish winter!

However, one cheap pair I did score were these velvet Mango beauts for €20.

PS big thank you to everyone who voted for my blog in the recent Blog Awards- I really appreciate it.

Spring it on

What will we be wearing this Spring/Summer? I’ve been browsing some of the high street and designer trends and here’s what I found.

Frayed denim is a really popular trend as seen here on Rihanna wearing Marques’ Almeida and has been seen on street stylers worldwide also.

Marques’ Almeida are responsible for this look slowing creeping in from the catwalk to mainstream.

Frayed denim can look a bit odd but remember we all thought distressed ripped jeans were odd too and how wrong we were! It can be blended into a casual or formal look.

For an adventurous look, try these long frayed edge jeans from Bershka.

Cropped styles look best, like these also from Bershka.

Zara have an entire editorial devoted to denim on their website. These white frayed denim styles are perfect for summer.

Two-tone denims are also dominating the high street market this year. Topshop is the best place for this look.

Culottes- are these ultimate unwearable trend? I hated them at first because they are deeply unflattering and I like fitted clothing. However some people manage to make them look amazing-kudos! I think heels and a fitted top are key.

I prefer the more fitted culottes but these super wide leg ones from Boohoo look amazing (on the model anyway!) I’m not 100% sold on them for myself just yet.

Leandra Medine looking gorgeous and not one bit repellant in culottes..sigh. See my Pinterest fashion board for some more inspiration.

And the shoe of the season? Why python print! I have an unhealthy obsession with this print so I love these boots and shoes. These boots are from a new online store I’ve discovered, LASULA.co.uk.

I suspect there is no such thing as “python” print, it’s all good old-fashioned snakeskin! Indeed a customary search of Zara.com revealed one item tagged “snake” and zero tagged “python”. 😛

Lace-up styles are still popular, these babies from Bershka are just €25.99 right now. (I still can’t afford them though).

So what do you think of these trends? Anything I’ve missed? Leave me a comment using the grey speech bubble icon on the bottom right and let me know.

Hope you have all enjoyed this post and my last post interviewing Sinead Burke, it’s been one of my most popular posts this year so far. You can follow @joyofblogs on Instagram and Twitter or see my Facebook page here. Thanks for reading as always.

Bohemian Rhapsody

The recent beautiful weather has caused a phenomenon that can only be described as a “summer clothing Armageddon.” All of Ireland and their mammies were buying Penneys out of shorts, t-shirts, skirts, sun cream and sunglasses! If you too are looking for some cute summer clothes look no further, my edit is here.

Trends for summer include gypsy tops, snake-skin and hamsa hand prints. Round sunglasses are also a must! The bohemian look is everywhere. I have to say I didn’t like boho the first time round (Boho circa 2005/2006). But nowadays I’m quite partial to boho chic, see below.

Everyone who knows me knows I love florals, accessories and floral hair accessories. So maybe I am boho but I don’t like to restrict myself to one style. 😉

However gypsy style off the shoulder tops really appeal to me! They are easy to dress up but work equally well as a casual top. The only qualm I have with them is you have to wear a strapless bra (or a bandeau top or no bra) if you don’t want to ruin the look!

Gypsy tops should be worn loose and look great with blue denim jeans or cut-off shorts. Try and avoid wearing anything else overly bohemian with them. Stay away from tight fitted off the shoulder tops, you’ll look like you are on the way to a 2003 teenage disco. Especially if you wear them with flares 😉

This open back Asos one is gorgeous.

Upcycling an old vintage top like this Etsy one works equally well. Available from Leisure Vintage on Etsy. White or light colours are great for summer and the bell sleeves are really retro.

alt=< Bell Sleeve Top>

If you need any further proof that the 70’s look is in just see Azealia’s Banks Coachella outfit.Azealia  wore a Nasty Gal crop top with huge bell sleeves while performing at Coachella this weekend.

Mandala prints, hamsa hand prints and ethnic prints are another big summer trend. I got this light blue t-shirt from Penneys at the weekend.

alt=<hamsa print tshirt>

I got these blue round sunglasses from Tiger for €4.

alt=<round sunglasses>

The hamsa print works equally well on jewellery as well as clothing. Asos have some lovely delicate jewellery, including this bracelet. I bought a similar one in Mallorca except it was more like a friendship bracelet.

alt=< Hand Thread Bracelet>

I’m also loving the snakeskin trend as I’ve a serious weakness for mock snakeskin shoes. These are my latest additions from River Island.

Another great style are these pale green flatforms also from River Island.

And finally for something more dressy, check out these Topshop heels. Possibly the most beautiful shoes ever?

alt=<snakeskin heels>alt=<snakeskin heels>

To compliment any hippy look, you need a pair of John Lennon style round sunglasses. 😉 Forever 21 always have great sunglasses like these styles below.

Thank you for reading this post, hope you have enjoyed it and gotten some inspiration. I’ll be heading to several festivals this summer and am already dreaming about gorgeous bohemian outfits. Watch this space 😉
