All about that waist

Accentuating the waist is one of fashion’s most tried and tested formulas. But chunky waist belts went out in 2007 and no-one rational would entertain a waist trainer! Enter the corset belt, the sexy and not-so-subtle waist cincher.

Beloved by Bella Hadid, Rihanna and the Kardashian klan, the latest reincarnation of the corset belt has many celebrity fans.

Corset belts were last seen back when The Pussycat Dolls had a hit and the aforementioned group were probably responsible for their demise.

The girls were known for their lingerie inspired outfits!

However, corset belts don’t have to be trashy. Back in 2011, Alexander McQueen created this beauty, the grandaddy of all corset belts.

Designers such as Manish Aurora and Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini have given the corset belt a 2017 twist with their own unique interpretations of the trend.

The corset belt can be worn multiple ways, over a over-sized t-shirt, a plain shirt, a jumper or a dress.

Although many celebrities have chosen to amp up the sex factor by wearing it with a long t-shirt and knee high boots, personally I prefer it with a casual outfit.

This blue denim corset belt from Bershka is ideal for layering over a jumper dress or t-shirt.

This Rare London black belt has a corset detail in front but plain on the reverse, perfect for daywear.

Boohoo.com even have a two-in-one corset belt and t-shirt dress for only €20!

This black leather look belt is one of my favourite corset belts and is currently only €14 on Boohoo.com.

If the Goth/vamp vibe isn’t your thing, try a white or cream belt and pair it with cotton or denim. The high street corset belts are usually about €15 but if you want to try a DIY one, here’s a simple tutorial.

I’ll definitely be trying out this trend, after all it beats going on a diet! Do you like corset belts or do you think they are overrated? Leave me a comment below and let me know.

Born Slippy: The Slip Dress Trend

I love anything to do with Clueless (just look at my Twitter) and the revival of nineties layering and slip dresses is what I’ve been dreaming of.

The real champion of the slip dress was, of course, Kate Moss.

The waif-like supermodel could wear a satin slip like no other. Bow down, bitches.

Nowadays, Kylie Jenner has single-handedly raised slip dresses from the dead. She’s probably also responsible for that whole bandana craze.

Simple black and white make for a great combination but feel free to mix it up with colours and different styles of dress.

I found this red Guess silk slip dress for €2 in my local charity shop. I layered it with a long top, sheer tights and Doc Martens.

Topshop currently has lots of slip dresses. PS if you haven’t been to new revamped Topshop on Stephen’s Green, GO NOW!

I can’t write a blog post without including something floral so here’s a little beauty from Miss Selfridge.

I knew I needed help for my floral addiction when this happened…

Naturally, Urban Outfitters have their finger on the pulse with this fashion-forward black slip dress.

Peach and champagne colour slip dresses are a nice alternative to black and look great with a tan.

These dresses look best with bare legs and simple shoes, ideally flats.

Slip dresses don’t have to be super short either, laid-back style doesn’t get much better than this Boohoo midi.

If your slip dress resembles a nightdress/lingerie, all the better.

Satin, silk and lace trims are all good, just keep the rest of the outfit classy.

Other ways to do 90’s layering are wearing a vest over a t-shirt a la Cher, pinafore dresses over t-shirts and throw on a bandana as an accessory.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post, leave me a comment and let me know! I can’t believe it’s taken me three years to devote an entire blog post to Clueless 😛

I’ve been longlisted for the Blog Awards again this year so thanks for the nominations, I’m delighted.

How to choose the perfect swimsuit/bikini for summer

The most important advice I can impart when buying swimwear is..buy early!

Your holiday may not be until August/September but nice swimwear sells out fast and is usually the first casualty of the summer sales.

You don’t want to be rummaging through the sale racks, finding a matching top and bottom that fit on sale is as likely as winning the lotto.

Triangl style bikinis are still really popular,  River Island are continuing one style from last year and Penneys even have cute Triangl style bikinis in lots of colours.

Penneys buyers are a bit slow off the mark though, they are only bringing in this bikini and crochet tops this year even though they were huge last year!

This year Triangl have updated their styles with pretty floral prints, visible stitching, and tie-dye.

But if they’re out of your budget (the sets start from $79), you can find similar looks at River Island, Asos, Bershka and Pretty Little Thing.

High necked bikini tops are a great option if you are sunburnt or don’t feel confident in the standard triangle top.

This pink crochet River Island top is now on sale for €12 with matching bottoms for €7 and also comes in black.

Another high neck option is this cute mesh seashell style from Missguided.

Bear in mind, it probably will become transparent in water!

We can blame/thank/curse Kylie Jenner for the high cut/high leg trend. When she wore this hot pink 80s swimsuit last summer, she set the trend.

But long before Kylie was even born, Claudia Schiffer was killing it.

High cut swimsuits can look amazing…or can make you feel like this.

They are much less forgiving than your average one piece!

This black one from Bershka is so cute. It’s ideal for girls with smaller boobs as the sides are cut away with little support.

This wrap-around multi-colour bikini is a fun twist on the standard bandeau but also has full support.

Hope you all enjoyed this post, the one from last year still get hits so I put lots of research into this year’s one. 🙂

I’m going to Edinburgh this week so hopefully will have a post on that soon.

Enjoy the beautiful weather and leave me a comment and let me know what you thought.
